MARCH ON MILWAUKEE:
A Memoir of the
Open Housing Protests

Written by Margaret Rozga
Directed by Mark Lococo

On two weekends in April 2007 (April 13, 14, 15; 20 and 21), Director Mark Lococo of the University of Wisconsin- Waukesha produced March On Milwaukee, a play about the 1967-8 open housing marches written by Peggy Rozga.

This play is based on Rozga’s original interviews with NAACP Youth Council members, most notably Pamela Sargent, Shirley Butler, and Mary Childs Arms, who participated in the open housing marches and who participated in talk-back sessions after performances of the play. History Professor Tim Thering facilitated talk-backs with those participants following two performances of the play, putting the close-up approach of the play in historical perspective.
